Does the international response for the opening of the northwest passage bother you?
So after hundreds of years of burning fossil fuels and increasing atmospheric carbon dioxide, the arctic sea ice is melting to a record low. The international response? It looks something like this:
“Wow, there is up to 25% of the world’s undiscovered fossil fuels lying under there for us to claim, and look! We can use this area as a major shipping lane, too!”
Does this seem a bit self-destructive? To capitalize on this newly exposed area of the earth to accelerate the process of what has caused it to occur in the first place? I’d like to hear your opinions.

This mentality is to be expected. There is big money in finding more supplies of oil. You really can’t blame oil companies though. they are just supplying what we as consumers demand– cheap energy for our homes and cars. There is no sign that we will give up our modern lifestye which is based on more and more demands for energy. As for a northern shipping route, hey why not? It will save time and fuel if it becomes feasible. Humans have done self destructive things from the begining, it won’t stop now.
