Huge Crash at Spa Francorchamps 2010 International GT Open
July 23rd, 2010

Just week’s after Marcel Tiemann’s horrendous accident at Imola there’s been another massive shunt during the GT Open race in Spa Francorchamps. Luckily everyone escaped serious injuries. Despite this, the race also offered a lot of on track action, this is an underrated series.

horrible
oh…my…GOD! that’s a big as hell hit if I ever saw one.
That was a really bad move by Augas…what did he expect to happen there?
O rui é o maior :D
that was just plain stupid and very, very dangerous. he pushed both of them head-on to the wall. he deserves to sit for a few races for this dumb move..
At Blanchimont where the incident occured, it’s the same accident involving Kimi Räikkönen two years ago.
That’s about as opportunistic as it gets.
Unbelievable!! I like the announcer’s panicky tone.
It’s a huge crash ! Big crash !
i was there..
To all bunch of idiots from Spain defending Barba . This was a racing incident. You can see clearly that Barba decelarated alot to avoid Kirkaldy and Aguas returning to the track touched the corrector which make the car changed direction. If you see the video shooted from behind everything was very fast, because this is racing on fast cars and boys if you don`t handle stay at home.
@tugatomsk me too, Aguas is a fucking idiot…
I don’t understand what was Rui Águas thinking, honestly…
Amazing , how somebody ( radionova ) can to say idiot to Barba ….. drunked ? ??? , OMG .. is not a good moment to win a position , very bad Mr Aguas…
man those two didn’t even let off and ran into each other,
@RARchevette Yeah there’s the DBRS9, the Viper CC, the GT, plus I remember seeing a few Sunreds earlier. But they seem to be not much more than traffic for the F430 GTC and 997RSR who fight for the wins.
Barba idiot
Aguas Idiot
@GauntV
Calm down, he calls it a horrendous crash and he reacts quite shocked. In the end he only points out that the front missing is ‘not as worse as it is’, because it is suppose to happen due to crash structure.
holy hit!
was watchin it on german tv but just noticed the commentator “weve had an accident like that with >one of our customers<, and it looks alot worse than it is” hmmm =/ common man comment on the race no your business, look pretty fuckin harsh to me!
watched this race, crazy crash! shame about the SEAT safety cars :P
@ShizoluckyShizostar I saw way more than 2 makes in the video. There’s the ferrari, Porshe, Aston Martin, Ford, Dodge in there.
Shame there are not more than 2 makes in contention. More variety would be nice.
stop yelling
Having spoken to Rui several times while he has been flat on his back in a Belgian hospital over the last few weeks, it might be time to put the record straight. First off - thanks to all the well wishers - they should know he’s on the mend, now in Lisbon and able to walk and swim for short periods. Rui is a very experienced driver and the footage is easily misinterpreted. Travelling at speed with a car spinning out of control and hitting the wall to his right, Rui was close up behind his team mate who braked unexpectedly. Rui had to swerve right to avoid hitting his teammate and as he emerged from the dust/smoke realised he was running out of road. With half his car in front of his team mate he could not see him alongside and swerved left to avoid the grass and make the next corner. Unfortunately his team mate was still there and the rest is painful history. No question Rui would take anyone out deliberately, he’s one of the nicest guys you could ever meet and far from suicidal. He hopes his broken back will heal quickly and doubtless he’ll be back to the sport he loves in some capacity by the end of the season. You can’t keep a good man down.
