Hurricane Shary passing to east of Bermuda (AP)

Tomas had strengthened quickly Friday night with maximum sustained winds of 65 mph (100 kph). Its center was about 100 miles (165 kilometers) southeast of Barbados. Further strengthening was expected, with Tomas possibly becoming a hurricane by Saturday morning.
