Maxed Out part 1 of 9

Maxed Out: Hard Times, Easy Credit and the Era of Predatory Lenders (2006) is an independent feature-length documentary film and (2007) book that chronicles abusive practices in the credit card industry. Written and directed by James Scurlock, the film and book use interviews with creditors, debtors, academics, and others to illustrate its story. The film premiered at the South by Southwest Film Festival in Austin, Texas, USA, in 2006 where it claimed the Special Jury Prize. It went on to several film fests including Seattle, Full Frame Documentary, Maui, New Zealand, Milwaukee International, Woodstock, Bergen, Leeds International, Oxford and IDFA (Amsterdam) film festivals. It was released in movie theaters in select cities in the United States in March 2007 through Magnolia Pictures. The DVD was released nationally in June 7, 2007, in the joint effort Magnolia Pictures and Red Envelope Entertainment (a division of Netflix). The book Maxed Out is published by Scribner, a division of Simon and Schuster. It was published in March 2007 in hardcover and in December 2007 in paperback. Scurlock’s purpose for the film and book was to raise awareness of how credit and lending issues are affecting society. @luvUtube247 Amen.

@crodgers10… System set up to never ever give you that advice in high school. Would be very easy to have a financial class in HS.
Much easier to give financial class years later in college when you have 30k worth of college debt, plus 10-20k in CC debt.
Alot of good it does then..lol
It’s not by accident that gov wants people terrible with money
As they are the worst, gov debt easier to “understand” to these people

@tubytubytube They can’t send you to prison, but they can take all your stuff, if it would get that far. Most of these creditors would have to start by going to your local magistrate, and pay to file for small claims court, which I have never seen happen. If you don’t care about your credit, they can’t do anything to you.

Fraud is the only way. If you used fake SS#, name address, then you can be put in prison.

@MrAntiestablishment so basically you can say, “I’m not paying you” and they can’t send you to prison?

@jklfds85 he means that unless you’re paying your bills with the card your throwing your money away on stuff you don’t need when you need to save it. Trust me, car’s die, you get laid off, you get sick-and the government social security program is a joke. Save your money,please!

@xxDogsoldierxx Trust me. I’ve tried it. When you’re so miserable and in a pit with no way out being numb whether its with alcohol, drugs, or killing yourself is a very entertaining idea. You just want it to end, if life to stop beating you up and nothing anyone can say can help. You just have to rest and relax and step back a little in order to recoop,prayer and talking about it helps.

@wryonlife Drive thru a poor neighborhood and see how many people are driving nicer cars than you-somebody believes it.

@crodgers100 How is suicide the easy way out?

Dave Ramsey is great! I wish somebody would’ve given me this advice when I was in high school-I wouldn’t have been as messed up as I am now. His books and his classes are wonderful.

DAVE RAMSEY!!!!!
WOOHOO!!!
Read “The Total Money Makeover” and live it!

@jmoon219 I would start recording your phone calls with them. Also, try to settle with them if you can, you know something like 30-50 cents on the dollar.

@MrAntiestablishment

The card companies can ruin your credit history hurting your job prospects and drastically limiting career options.

@taineasy Global Collapse… check out the documentaries money as debt 1 and 2… and the book ‘why an economy grows and why it crashes by peter schiff’. Debt is needed to keep this ’system’ going, by design that’s why things like the housing bubble happens.

Yeah lady, it’s called Rome!
“Some place called, the seven hills, someplace in Italy”

That girl in the black and white video is hot.

How do I get rid of these damn Spanish subtitles?

@Alektrion Yeah, that was pathetic.

omg. Some place in Italy called seven hills. Seven hills of Rome? She’s too cultured. Hey there Las Vegas.

@whiteclaudia9 They make money off of people who DON’T pay their bills on time cause they can charge them late fees, hence, why they perfer those types of customers.

The opening segment is exactly whats going on in Canada right now. Skyrocketing prices, people upgrading to ridiculously huge houses/mortages and young people buying houses they can only afford if rates stay very low. Risk is in. Canadian housing market will look just like the US within 3-5 years.

Man, I have to watch this for Consumer Ed class. I know that I will always be careful, have good credit, pay my bills on time, and never buy things that i WANT instead of what I NEED.

@jklfds85 Well done! Credit cards are great only when you know how to use them to your own advantage.

@Rocketmama0206 where you at, telephone tough guy? Calling people up a million miles away and threatening to kill them if they don’t pay up is some low down shit, you scum bag collector pussy motherfucker! You’re probably a pedophile to! If I ever meet you face to face, I’ll kill you. And I ain’t hardly bullshitting. Try me you pussy.

I love the intro to this movie with the Under Pressure song. It’s one the best intros to any movie period.

@Rocketmama0206 i’d stomp you flat!!
